Scholarships and Awards
The following scholarships are available to current MTSU Psychology students. Submit an online scholarship application through the MTSU Scholarship website by the March 1 deadline.
How to Apply
The scholarship application open is open from October 1 to March 1. To complete, log into the MTSU Scholarship Manager using your PipelineMT username and password.
1. Complete the General Scholarship Application
This is the first step for all students.
2. Review additional scholarship applications
Once you submit the General Scholarship Application, you’ll see a list of other scholarship applications that apply to you.
3. Complete all applicable scholarship applications
To be considered for all scholarships, fill out every application that appears for you.
4. Automatic matching
You’ll automatically be matched to scholarships for which you meet the basic criteria.

The Psychology Department has monetary awards for outstanding students. These awards are given only once each year and are competitive.
Angie Heydel Walker Scholarship
- Recipients must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in the field of Psychology and have completed 45 or more hours toward the degree
- Recipients must have an overall minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of the application
- Recipients must be eligible to receive need-based support
- If a recipient fails to maintain the required level of academic performance or changes to a major outside those specified, they will forfeit any unpaid balance of their award
Belsky Endowed Psychology Scholarship
- Recipients must be enrolled full-time, have a declared major in Psychology, and be in good standing with the University
- Recipients must have an overall minimum GPA of 3.0
- Recipients must be eligible to receive need-based support
- Recipients must have past volunteerism working toward the betterment of society
- Should a recipient become ineligible, any remaining scholarship award will be forfeited, and a new recipient may be named using the criteria stated above
Larry Morris Outstanding Senior in Psychology Award
- Recipient must be a senior pursuing an undergraduate degree in the field of Psychology.
- Recipient must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.75.
- Recipient will be asked to submit:
- a copy of their academic transcript,
- a curriculum vitae or resume that outlines educational experiences and achievements, research activities, previous awards/honors, public service, and publications/presentations,
- two letters of recommendation from current Psychology Department faculty,
- a short personal statement that discusses accomplishments, career goals, and how the information learned within their Psychology courses will aid in those career goals.
Tyler A. Schultz Memorial Scholarship in Psychology
- Recipients must have a declared major in Psychology and be in good standing with the department
- Recipients must have an overall minimum GPA of 3.0
- Recipients must have attained junior or senior status at the time of the award
- Recipients must be eligible to receive need-based support
- Preference will be given to students who graduated from a Tennessee high school
Willard A. Kerr Award of Excellence- Outstanding Senior In Industrial-Organizational Psychology
Recipients do not apply. Candidates are chosen by the department.
William Beryl West/ Psi Chi Psychology Club Service Scholarship
- Recipients must have a declared major in Psychology and be in good standing with the department
- Recipients must have an overall minimum GPA of 3.0
- Recipients must have attained junior or senior status at the time of the award
- Recipients must be eligible to receive need-based support
- Recipients must have demonstrated a history of active service in their church, university, community, and/or other unique voluntary service

Angie Walker Memorial Scholarship
- Recipients must be pursuing a master’s degree in the field of Psychology
- Recipients must have an overall minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale at the time of the application
- Recipients must be eligible to receive need-based support
- If a recipient fails to maintain the required level of academic performance or changes to a major outside those specified, he or she will forfeit any unpaid balance of their award
Elizabeth Wright Award
- Recipients must be pursuing a master’s degree in the field of Psychology and be in good standing with the department
- Recipients must have demonstrated perseverance in the face of adversity
- Preference given to students with physical challenges or financial adversity
- Preference given to students whose future goals include community service
- Recipients do not apply. Candidates are chosen by the department.
James O. Rust School Psychology Endowed Scholarship
- The James O. Rust Scholarship has been awarded annually since 2004. Recipients must be nearing the end of the first year of study in the school psychology graduate program. For application materials, please contact Dr. Aimee Holt at Aimee.Holt@mtsu.edu
- Recipient must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.5
- Recipients should have a commitment to the field of school psychology, high level of responsibility, ethicality, professional attitude and skills, excellent performance in courses, and positive interactions with other students, faculty, and professionals in the field.
- In addition to the monetary amount, the student will be asked to help with community liaison. If the student were willing, this would consist of a minimum of 10 hours of phone contact with school psychology alumni over the course of the academic year of the award, to aid in keeping alumni apprised of events in the program and to help in soliciting contributions to the scholarship fund.
Robert Prytula Scholarship
- Recipients must be a graduate student in Applied Research and Methodology
Willard Kerr Memorial Scholarship/ Research
Recipients do not apply. Candidates are chosen by the department.
MTSU Scholarships
MTSU offers a number of scholarships that may be applicable to psychology majors who have completed the General Scholarship Application. Students can conduct a scholarship search to determine the availability of such awards.
