Department of Psychology
Advising
From your first semester through graduation, you’ll have two types of advising support.
New students
If you’re a new freshman or transfer student, start with New to Blue orientation. You’ll meet your advisor, register for your first courses, and learn how campus works.
Academic Advising
Academic advisors help with course registration, degree audits, and academic planning. They can answer questions about prerequisite, transfer credits, and graduation requirements.
When to see your academic advisor:
- Course registration and schedule planning
- Degree audit reviews
- Transfer credit questions
- Major or concerntration changes
- Academic probation or early alerts

Faculty Advising
Your faculty advisor is a faculty member in your program.
When to see your academic advisor:
- Career planning
- Research opportunities
- Professional organization memberships
- Graduate school advice
Effective Fall 2023, a faculty advisor will be assigned to students who (1) have either just completed or are completing the PSY2000 course (this will be part of the course), (2) students who recently changed their major to psychology and already have 60+ hours, OR (3) new transfer students who already have 60+ hours.
Faculty advisors are assigned based on a student’s area(s) of interest in psychology. If you are a transfer student or a change of major student, have 60+ hours, and do not have a faculty advisor, you can complete this form or talk with your department/academic advisor:
